Mônica Grohmann

Born 4th Feb 1963, Rio de Janeiro

Fine artist and studio potter living in Knighton, Market Drayton, Shropshire.

In the '80's lived and studied in São Paulo, Brazil. Graduated in Art Education with qualification in Fine Arts. Posgraduation studies at Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo.

1987-88 Painting, drawing and visual communication with Carlos Fajardo, São Paulo.

1988-92 Etchings and printmaking under the supervision of the artist Evandro Carlos Jardim at Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo and joined the intaglio and printmaking atelier "Francesc Domingo Segura" at Museu de Arte Contemporânea de São Paulo.

1993 Moved from São Paulo to Northeast Brazil and established her studio in the cosmopolitan village of Arraial D"Ajuda, Bahia. Lived there for many years, working mainly with painting and printmaking.

1997 Formed her own company producing handmade stationery and bindings.

1998 Moved to England and started working with ceramics. Started throwing at Gladstone Working Pottery Museum, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. Several years taught and trained by potter Kevin Millward.

From 2000 to 2003 worked part time as pottery demonstrator at Gladstone Museum.

2002 Opened her studio in Mucklestone, Shropshire. Raku firings with Huw Phillips.

2007 Opens Raku workshop. Started making tiles and mosaics at Kiln Bank Studio Pottery, Market Drayton,

Since 2005 Working with pottery, painting and printmaking. Studio at Knighton, Market Drayton, Shropshire.
